Principles Before Personalities — Android
=========================================

"Principles Before Personalities.apk" is the Android app. It is installed directly
("sideloaded"), not from the Google Play Store. It needs Android 7.0 or newer.

It is an offline reader: no account, no internet permission, nothing uploaded. Your
highlights, marked pages, sticky notes, imported texts and reading place are saved only
on your phone.

What's inside: the public-domain first edition text (1939, with the 1941 printing's
revisions) of "Alcoholics Anonymous" (meeting page numbers preserved: Bill's Story p. 1,
How It Works p. 58, through p. 164) and the Personal Stories from that first edition.
This is not the current edition.

Public domain in the United States only; copyright status in other countries may differ.

How to install
--------------
  1. Get the .apk onto your phone: download it on the phone itself, or copy it over
(USB cable, Google Drive, email to yourself, etc.).
  2. Tap the .apk file (in Chrome's downloads or the Files app).
  3. Android will ask you to allow installing apps from that source. Tap "Settings",
turn on "Allow from this source" (the setting is called "Install unknown apps"),
     then go back.
  4. Tap "Install". If Google Play Protect says the app is from an unknown developer,
tap "More details" > "Install anyway". (It is signed with a personal certificate
rather than a Play Store one.)
  5. Open "Principles Before Personalities" from your app drawer. It runs fully offline.

You can turn "Install unknown apps" back off afterwards.

Using the reader
----------------
- Menu button (top left): the Library — books, parts and chapters, chapter filter,
"Marked pages", and "Import a text" (.txt or .md).
- Swipe left/right or use the bottom arrows to turn pages; tap the chapter names at the
bottom for previous/next chapter; type a page number to jump to it.
- Highlight: long-press to select text, then tap one of the five colors in the bar that
appears (yellow, amber, pink, green, blue); "Erase" removes a highlight.
- Bookmark button: marks the page with a ribbon in the current color.
- Yellow note button: adds a sticky note — drag it by its top strip, resize from the
bottom-right corner, change its color, or remove it with the x.
- Magnifier: search the book, with a match count and up/down to step through matches.
- The Back button closes the library menu, search or selection before leaving the app.

Uninstalling the app deletes your notes and highlights.
